Sister Cities OKC presented its Global Vision Award to Clayton I. Bennett at the annual luncheon Wednesday, November 5, at the Petroleum Club.
Each year Sister Cities OKC recognizes an individual for outstanding leadership in fostering its core mission, promoting the ima ge, economic development, culture, business and educational projects connecting OKC and the world. “Connect globally, thrive locally.” The Sister Cities Board of Directors voted unanimously to honor Bennett with the 2014 Award. “The Thunder’s positive reach around the world is the most extraordinary event in Oklahoma City’s history,” Sister Cities President Vicki Gourley said. “In every corner of the world where cityans travel a Thunder hat, t-shirt or jacket brings the most astonishing number of reactions from the locals … smiles, thumbs up or chants of “Thunder! Thunder!”
“Clay’s vision of bringing an NBA team to our city has brought OKC fame and name recognition that no one could have ever imagined. The economic impact of The Thunder on Oklahoma City must be second only to oil and gas, “ Gourley continued. “The wholesome, family friendly demeanor of the entire OKC Thunder organization and its players under Clay’s leadership, has endeared the team to Oklahoma City residents and fans around the world.”
